Attack on the FAMILY

Genesis 1:27-28 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, replenish the earth……..”

Ever since God created the first family it has been under attack. Satan has gone out of his way to destroy the family unit, simply because God created it. We find him bring sin into the first marriage (Adam and Eve) and by this sin bringing a strangeness between them. As Adam and Eve represented the whole human race he through this also brought sin to all mankind and continues to use sin to destroy families.

We see his attacks continued with Cain rising up and killing his brother Abel. Not even the good families where spared. Jacob stole his brother (Esua’s) birthright and blessing and had to flee for his life. Satan has not stopped. When we look at the families throughout the Bible we see Satan working to destroy them and bring division. Satan also knows that the hurt caused by a family member is far greater and more damaging than any which can be caused by a friend or stranger. (Not that that does not hurt). By the hurts caused by family members somehow does the most damage and leave the biggest scars and bitterness behind.

Historians tell us that one of the greatest reasons why the GREAT ROMAN EMPIRE fell is because its family unit had collapsed. This had lead those in the know to believe that a nation is as strong as it family unit. This is true, when the family unit collapses then community collapses with the consequence that a nation falls. Satan is not just interest in bring a nation to its feet but he seeks to bring a world to its feet and under his demonic servitude. Satan seeks world rule which he hopes to achieve eventually through the anti-christ.

No wonder the holy Scriptures tells us that in the last days, which we live in, that the family unit will be under attack like never before, so as to bring a world to its knees in servitude to him. Consider these Scriptures about end times:

Mark 13:12 ” Now brother shall betray brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.” Does this not speak of great family turmoil.

Matthew 24:37-39 ” But as the days of Noah were so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” This tells us amongst other things that in the last days marriages will be under attack and divorces and remarriages common. Every one of us knows at least one or two people who are currently divorced and or remarried again.

2 Timothy 3:1-2 ” This know also that in the last days perilous times shall come, for men shall be lovers of their own selves……disobedient to parents…” This speaks to us about the rebellion we are seeing among our children. School violence is on the increase like also child pregnancies, and alcohol and drug dependency among children.

These verses so clearly highlight to us this full assault on our families, marriages, children and parents. Truly we have never found in all of our history such violent times in the family unit as today. This is Satan’s final onslaught to destroy the family unit and bring the world to its knees before him.

What should we do? Is there anything which we can do? The answer is yes there is much we can do. We shall share some of the things which we can do and aught to be doing:

1) Take courage God is for the family. As we submit ourselves to God, He fights for our family. If we know Him as our personal Lord and Saviour we can become an instrument God can use to bring healing to and in our families. Ask God to use you to do this and trust Him to show you how. 2) Be vigilant, active in your family by: sorting out any misunderstandings which could have arisen between you and other family members, humbling yourself, taking the blame to bring peace. Next we need to be people who pray for our families…… confess their sin, plead with the Lord to prepare their hearts to receive Him, pray for God to protect them from wrong friends, influences. Ask God to bring them in contact with godly people and to save them. Ask God to meet with them.Show love and compassion to each and every family member esteeming each one better than yourself. Seek their goodwill. Get involved daily in your child’s life. Talk about the day at school, about their friends etc. Go through you children’s school work weekly. We got to get involved in our children and other family members life’s, that does not mean to get involved in their business…that is destructive not constructive but get to know what is going on in them and with them.Study the Word of God and see the different families recorded in there. See what they did right and what went wrong so that we can learn from their example and avoid making the same mistakes in our own families.

3) Live full out for Jesus, no compromise do not be half hearted or lukewarm in your devotion and Christian life. What you are at church should be that which you are at home. No difference. You cannot expect God to do in your family that which He has not yet first done in you. If you are not fully trusting Jesus do not expect your loved ones to.

As we do this and whatever else God tells us to do He will step in and do in our family those things we are unable to do. Be not deceived Satan will not just give up or let go of your family he will persist in his attacks. As a result we too can not give up fighting for our families but we have a living hope JESUS CHRIST and we have also read the end of the story….Satan is defeated.

May God bless you and your family and may His face shine upon it.
