This is the question everybody aught to be asked. It is also the question that each of us can answer and say YES I will go to heaven because I am born again and know the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour. What is your answer to this question? If your answer is no or you have doubts please read on:
In the book of Romans, chapter 6 and verse 23 we read: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Now we want to break this verse up a little so that you may understand how you can have this assurance of eternal life.
WAGES: This is a payment received for the work we have done. It is that which we earn for what we have done.
SIN: Is not living our life the way God wants us to. God has given us His commandments and they reveal the way God wants us to live. The 9th Commandment says: “Thou shalt not bear false witness.” In other words we should not lie. Now all of us have at sometime lied. Therefore we have broken Gods laws and not lived as God wants us to. This is sin. Jesus summarized how we should live by saying: “To love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…. and thy shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Matthew 22:37-39) Truly we have all failed in this. We have all sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.
DEATH: This is the wages we receive for living a life of sin. It means eternal separation from God both and now and forever. We all know that wrong must be punished. So to must sin be punished and this is the wages which our sin pays us….namely separation from God which finds its fulfillment in the place called HELL…the lake of fire and brimstone. As we experience this separation now it means that in this life we are living without HOPE and HELP and are most miserable.
BUT: This implies there is another way. This also tells us that God does not want any of us to be punished so He has made a way for us to come to Him. It also tells us God loves us and desires to have a relationship with us.
GIFT: A gift is something I am given for free. This is what God wants to give you a free gift.
OF GOD: Tells us it comes from God Himself. It is He who offers it to you and to me. Because God is eternal this GIFT has eternal value.
ETERNAL LIFE: This means forgiveness of sin and enjoying fellowship with God both now and forever. It means that when we die we will be with Jesus in Heaven. That place where there is no more sin, suffering, sickness or poverty. Where we are forever in the presence of God.
IN CHRIST JESUS: Jesus died, He took the WAGES of your sin and mine upon Himself on the cross. He died and rose again the 3rd day so that now He can offer us forgiveness of sin and eternal life. All you need to do is ask HIM for it. The Bible tells us that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (have eternal life) Romans 10:13.
OUR LORD: You need to make Him Lord of your life. Means to make Him your Master and Owner. When we call upon Him to SAVE us we also need to surrender ourselves, in fact our all to HIM, to honour and obey HIM and live the way He wants us to.
If you right now realize you have never called upon the Lord to save you and have never gave yourself to HIM will you not do that right now by praying this prayer:
“Dear Lord Jesus, today I realize I am a sinner and deserve to be punished for my sins as I have not lived my life in the way You wanted me to. Please forgive and and I ask you to save me. I believe you are God and died to take the WAGES of my sin and that YOU rose again the 3rd day to give me forgiveness and Eternal Life. I ask you to come into my life as my Lord and Saviour and I surrender my life, my all to You. Thank you for forgiving me and giving me Eternal Life and being my Lord and Saviour. Thank you I am now Your child. Amen”
